frankenskid | Anyone have a good system for this? Had an issue the other night where I normally loan a guy a deck for FNM, I asked him to split with me for using my deck, and he opened a domri rade, a boros reckoner and a foundry champion, trying to push the champ off on me for the split.... to which I replied, how about we roll for it, 1-2 champ, 3-4 domri, 5-6 reckoner...... So do you guys loan out cards or whole decks, and if so do you charge a usage fee if anything at all? I mean the guy's my friend, but I don't have 8 of everything, and loaning him a deck does limit some of my options for things like shocks, and chase cards if they are in the deck he wants to build...... Thoughts? |
mulder | It depends. If it's a few cards, I ask nothing at all. If it's an entire deck, I ask nothing either but I'd kinda expect to give me something when they win a prize. :-) Common decency. |
AGO | He should of gave you a pack and not opened it. |
majicman | Depends on the size of the prize. He wins a box and it was my deck, I would hope he would give me 12-18 packs. At least 1/4 to 1/2 seems fair since you own the cards. Obviously he has to pay the entry fee, so perhaps taking that into consideration. Would recommend not opening the packs before you decide.

+1. This makes for a nice reward for letting him borrow your deck without getting into judging if he gave you enough price wise from what was opened. |
2austin5 | Yea, usually when me and my friends lend each other entire decks, we split and prizes 50/50 because one provided the deck and the other piloted it. If its just a few cards then all the winnings belong to the person who won because they needed the few pieces and as I'm not using those pieces its great that you won. Thats the understanding between me and my friends. |

+1 for me as well. If I piloted a deck to 3 packs, the owner of the deck since I didn't have the cards would get at least a pack...possibly a pack and a couple buck rare from him I needed. |
TimeBeing | wait 2 25$ card and you get the 1$ card as a split? your friend sounds like an ass. |
MasterWolf | Stop letting marlo borrow decks. |

I see another MOTL award in your future. |
frankenskid | LOL thanks for the insights guys, normally I would split after opening due to the we both are in it for the long haul, but I would have taken a pack if he had given me one.... I actually prefer to open the prize and then split that, as it gives both of us the chance to do well with the packs, and not just one or the other.... had it happen a couple times where the prize split given to me had the goods in it and the others had nothing.... so it's more fair for all concerned, if the packs are good, we all work something out if the packs are bad we both suck it up. |
flophaus | I think he shoulda brought all three packs unopened and let you chosen one.
|
oneofchaos | I think the least you can do for borrowing a deck is at least buy the owner a soda. |

in 3 packs odds are if you get anything good it'll only be 1 good card. How do you split reckoner + bulk + bulk after the packs are opened? You just happened to get lucky in 3 packs and have 2 money cards. Splitting packs is the easy way, but if its a long term thing then spltiting value is fine as long as if he gets a reckoner this week, next week the domri goes to you. Does make it difficult for him to ever come out ahead if hes paying the entry fees as well tho.

I assumed that by now you would have won at least one...a good one, not a douchey one... and you're welcome.

Hermann -ICE- | The only question remains: Which card did you end up getting? |
choco man | Important thing is if you're going to ask for compensation, make sure you ask before the you lend the cards. Don't lend out crappy sideboard commons, have the guy win something big, and then ask for a split. Between friends, not asking for anything and not expecting anything seems like a decent enough policy.

frankenskid | I ended up with the domri. It was explained that a split for borrowing the full deck. I don't care about ones or twos, heck even up to like 10 cards wouldn't be a problem, and entire deck however is a heft investment of cards..... especially when there's resotarion angels, silverblades, and shocks in it and that's just off the top of my head...... The split stuff was explained in advance of the borrowing that night. Also you total up the total of the prize won on an opened split, and decide who wants the big card then trades the other person the value difference between reckoner (25) and bulk bulk (1) or in this case 11.50. |
Bossium | As a Competitive player, I would be willing to go up to 50% split on whatever prizes if I borrowed an entire deck. Last guy at my LGS gave an unopened booster as payment for borrowing an entire standard deck. (booster is 1/4 the cost of a draft)
|
daner | I let someone borrow most of a deck for the PT(Montreal, most recent)....they got top 64....I doubt I'll get anything from them(wasn't a concern, could care less). I also haven't been given back my cards yet...and I've seen this person twice(which is the annoying part). |
